Hey late night lovers,
The second trip of the year is a fact! Wanna know where the plane took me in February? Let's find out!
This time I went on a trip with my friend Yoline. See, I'm planning to be in a foreign country every month so I'm not making it easy for myself. I don't mind if it would be in the Netherlands or Australia, but I really want to see something from the world this year. 2017 is for exploring different countries.
It's not a secret that I love Eastern Europe, but I didn't even care where we were going this time since I just wanted a small get-away from home. So I asked Yoline if she had any suggestions and she was like "What do you think about going to a Nordic country". And I was totally up for that! I've never been to Norway, Finland, Sweden,... or anything like that so I was very happy to get on that plane!
It was already quite late when we arrived at our hotel. We still had to catch a bite so we asked someone from the hotel where we had to go. She suggested a restaurant close to the hotel, I think the name was "Seventeen" but I'm not sure to be honest. I had some pasta (as usual, du-uh) and Yoline had a burger. We had a bottle of wine as well, way overpriced for a malbec from 2014 if you'd ask me but we were on holiday so we didn't even care.
When we got off the table, it was already quite late, but it was the perfect time to walk trough the city of lights.
Yoline went to school in Sweden for about 4 months and she lost her heart there. And well, I can't deny that this city didn't touch my heart either. It was really really cold but so charming! After a hot cup of tea, we went back to our room and slept until the sun was shining on our faces.
So the second day we had breakfast at this really cosy place close to the water, it was called Sander's Deli. We had breakfast with some typical Swedish things and then left to explore the city. We did take some time to take some pictures by the water too though. I mean, what did you expect, girls going on a trip without taking pictures? Oh please!
Walking around town really calmed me. The cold, the buildings, the people... Until I saw an ice rink... It's quite obvious that I love hockey because I play it myself. And all of a sudden while walking the streets of Stockholm, I saw an ice rink with small stores of hockey equipement next to it. Can you imagine how my eyes started flickering?
Eventually we found the shopping street. We didn't go there to shop actually but
it's just a girls thing I guess. After a bit of shopping we decided to look for something touristic in this city. I don't know if "the smallest street of Stockholm" is something touristic but it surely was really pretty.
I really wish I was better at orientating myself but I suck at it like reaaalllyyy bad! When I go on trips, I always hope the other person is good at directions because I would never find my way back. Even in Stockholm, I couldn't find my way around town. Thank God I had Yoline with me or I would be blogging from Sweden now (since I wouldn't be able to find the way to the airport, obviously).
There was one thing Yoline really wanted to do in Stockholm. It's something they call Fika and it's around 4 o'clock in the afternoon. They drink coffee and have a cake. Didn't really have to think about that idea twice to be honest, I just went with it. Cake & coffee, 2 words every girl wants to hear, right?
We had been wandering trough the city for quite a while and it was getting dark already. You know when the sun is going down and there is this magnificent view? Well, I think I captured it.
After our busy day, we went to an Italian place to have some dinner. I don't really remember what I had there, probably pasta since I'm an addict. After dinner we went back to our hotel for a while.
The night was still young so we wanted to go out for a couple of drinks. Yoline looked up where we could find a bar for young people. We went to this bar, I don't remember the name though, but the guy opened the door for us and he asked "do you have a reservation?" and we were like "Uuuuhhmmm? Reservations to have some drinks at night?". But he let us in and we could sit at the bar, which is my favorite spot to be honest. It was a cocktail bar but I wasn't feeling good at all so I just had some rosés. Yoline however tried some of the cocktails and the way they presented them was magnificent! The guys working there were also very friendly and they introduced us the drinks, which I think is very nice!
After some drinks we went back to the hotel to get some sleep. The next day was departure day.
If there is one thing I hate, it would be packing! No matter if it is to leave or to go home, I hate it! When I'm going on a trip, I'm always really excited, but then again if it's almost time to go home, I wanna be home as soon as possible. I always make sure to pack comfy wear to go on the plane. What's better than a sweater and some sweatpants?
If you'd ask me if I would ever go back to Sweden, the answer would probably be "yes". Stockholm is definitely a city that can inspire me, although we haven't really seen much. I do believe there is more to this city to explore, to live, to experience.
But guess what, it's almost time to pack my bags again. Prague, my lovely city, I'll see you in 11 days.
Love,
Charis x
